In a few words
Luxurious, expensive, An Italian holiday with a secret lover in a bottle.
Why we love it
A feminine, soft fresh floral without being too girly. Excellent for the office. Extremely easy to wear as a classy, modern go-to fragrance with a twist of fruit to make it delicious.
The Story
It's a comforting scent with flowers not so prominent and aldehydes not so powerful but well balanced.
Mimosa adds a melancholic vibe that I find very beautiful and, paired with bergamot, which balances the other flowers preventing the composition from becoming too sweet. On the contrary: it has an interesting bitter background which I find very elegant.
Yes, many find Aria di Capri a bit old school, but let's not forget that the "Old School" has created many a masterpiece that we still love and wear today.
Aria di Capri is a lovely, powdery floral where no note is emerging from the others but they all melt in harmony. It's a safe scent that you can wear in your workplace or at a dinner without risking annoying those who are around.
What others are saying
This is my first foray into the Carthusia perfumes, and I'm impressed! The more I wear this the more it brings to mind a soft breeze drifting across the hills to a sun-warmed Mediterranean villa. Apparently George Clooney wears a Carthusia (not this one though) and I can picture him looking iconically film-starish on an Italian terrace. (Or imagine The Talented Mr Ripley scenes in Italy before everything goes wrong!)
About the brand
Legend has it that in 1380 the father prior of the Carthusian Monastery of St. Giacomo was taken unaware by the news of the arrival in Capri of Queen Giovanna d’Angiò and so made a flower arrangement with the most beautiful flowers of the island. The water was not changed for three days and, when the flowers were thrown away, the prior noticed that the water had acquired a fragrance unknown to him. He went to the father alchemist who traced the origin of this scent back to the “Garofilum silvestre caprese”. That water became the first perfume of Capri.
